Rover

Rover is a 3D animated dog that originally appeared in Microsoft Bob, a product aimed at creating a "more user friendly interface for Windows 95". Rover's then name was "Rover Retriever", and was one of many other characters that would assist users in the software. Bob was released on March 10th, 1995 and was discontinued in early 1996 following general disinterest from the public.

As fate would have it, Rover would be saved from the gaping maw of lost media just a few years later in 2001 with the release of Windows XP, where he appeared once again as the mascot for the OS' search function, along with a plethora of new, pre-rendered sprite animations that breathed new life into the character.

I found Rover's full spritemap at this GitHub repository (apparently you can even add the included agents to your website, which I will attempt to do as some point).
